DESCRIPTION:Rainshadow Organics is a full-diet farm with dozens of varieties of certified organic vegetables\, herbs\, berries\, flowers\, pork\, chicken\, eggs\, turkey\, beef\, and grains on 200 acres. We are located 15 miles northeast of Sisters and 10 miles west of Terrebonne in Central Oregon. The farm is family owned and operated and we have been here since the early 1970’s. Sarahlee Lawrence grew up on the land and started Rainshadow in 2010. \nAll of the crops we grow are distributed within 50 miles of the farm through CSA programs\, local restaurants and grocery stores\, farmer’s markets\, and our own Farm Store which opened in 2017. We are proud to provide our community with locally grown food that is good for the people and our land.

SUMMARY:DD Ranch
DESCRIPTION:DD Ranch raises 100% grass fed/finished beef and lamb\, heritage pork\, eggs from free-range hens\, and raw honey from happy bees. Much of our livestock are heritage breeds\, promoting genetic diversity. We promote a closed system. While we are not certified organic\, we do follow organic practices and have reseeded our pastures with OMRI-certified alfalfa. Our pastures are not sprayed\, nor do we use chemical fertilizers. We do not use hormones or antibiotic feed for our livestock. We will be working with the Savory Institute beginning in 2021 to employ regenerative pasture management practices to further our knowledge of sustainable agriculture.

SUMMARY:Windy Acres Dairy Farm
DESCRIPTION:Windy Acres Dairy Farm was purchased in 1994 as a hobby farm. We turned it into a operational Grade A dairy in 2003 and milked our first cows in the parlor Oct. 31st.  We started with 44 cows. By 2005 we were up to 60 head in the parlor and 20 heifers being raised to come into the parlor at some point.  Because the cost and work was outweighing the income we sold the bulk of the herd in June\, 2005.  The farm started raising calves and milking only 7 cows.  We are currently raising pigs\, lamb and calves for the food chain of natural meat as well as chickens for meat and eggs. Seasonally we have blueberries and honey available.

DESCRIPTION:Willing Workers On Local Farms (WWOLF) WWOLF is a community program of Central Oregon Locavore Non-Profit with the goal of lending a hand to small farmers while educating the community about the true nature of local food. \nWe have revamped our program to adhere to the recommendations set forth by the Oregon Health Authority\, CDC\, and Gov. Kate Brown. Rest assured\, we are taking every precaution to keep you safe. We hope you join us!\nHow It Works You will meet the group at DD Ranch in Terrebonne at 10am. After a round of introductions at the farm\, we will split into groups and get to work. We will break for lunch around noon and then continue working until 3pm or the projects for the day are complete. \nWhat to Expect Good times\, new friends\, and a boots-on-the-ground education about local farming practices. We love dogs\, but please leave them at home for this event.\nWhat to Bring: Snacks and water\, work gloves\, your favorite hand tool\, face mask for times when 6-foot distancing isn’t possible\, closed-toe shoes\, layers for the weather\, and sunscreen. Tools and all materials needed to complete tasks will be provided by the farm. Soup and bread will be provided for lunch along with some product from the farm\, or bring your own! We will have a hand washing station and sanitizer for participant use. \nAbout DD Ranch: Located in beautiful Central Oregon\, DD Ranch raises 100% grass fed/finished beef and lamb\, heritage pork\, eggs from free-range hens\, and raw honey from happy bees. Much of our livestock are heritage breeds\, promoting genetic diversity. We promote a closed system. While we are not certified organic\, we do follow organic practices and have reseeded all of our pastures with OMRI certified alfalfa. Our pastures are not sprayed\, nor do we use chemical fertilizers. We do not use hormones or antibiotic feed for our livestock. We believe that happy and healthy stock make for happy and healthy families.\nThe ranch also provides access to the stunning countryside setting of the Smith Rock area. The Anspach family offers memorable ranch adventures such as school field trips\, hunting\, private events\, weddings\, and more. We also believe in promoting a strong local community and host annual events such as our Pumpkin Patch and the Great Harvest OCR 5K. We hope you’ll join us.
