We will be helping with end of season processing of dry corn\, carrots\, parsnips\, celeriac\, squash\, and beets. Helpers will harvest\, sort\, wash and pack the produce. A portion of the harvest will be sent to Neighbor Impact to benefit those in need. We love dogs\, but please leave them at home for this event.\nWhat to Bring: Snacks and water\, work gloves\, your favorite hand tool\, face mask for times when 6-foot distancing isn’t possible\, closed-toe shoes\, layers for the weather\, and sunscreen. The Rainshadow cafe will also be open from 12-2pm for lunch service. We will have a hand washing station and sanitizer for participant use. \nAbout Rainshadow: Rainshadow Organics is a full-diet farm with dozens of varieties of certified organic vegetables\, herbs\, berries\, flowers\, pork\, chicken\, eggs\, turkey\, beef\, and grains on 200 acres. We are located 15 miles northeast of Sisters and 10 miles west of Terrebonne in Central Oregon. The farm is family owned and operated and we have been here since the early 1970’s. Sarahlee Lawrence grew up on the land and started Rainshadow in 2010. \n\n\n\n\n\nAll of the crops we grow are distributed within 50 miles of the farm through CSA programs\, local restaurants and grocery stores\, farmer’s markets\, and our own Farm Store which opened in 2017.  We are proud to provide our community with locally grown food that is good for the people and our land.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Casad Family Farms for an afternoon of gleaning potatoes. We will be scouring the potato fields for left behind spuds and collecting them to donate to NeighborImpact. Participants will get to take home a sack of potatoes as a thank you for their efforts. \n\n\n\nHow it works: Meet us at Casad Family Farms at 1pm and head out into the potato fields. The main harvest has already been done but there are potatoes left behind that we will be loading into pallet boxes for the food bank. Much of our livestock are heritage breeds\, promoting genetic diversity. We promote a closed system. While we are not certified organic\, we do follow organic practices and have reseeded all of our pastures with OMRI certified alfalfa. Our pastures are not sprayed\, nor do we use chemical fertilizers. We do not use hormones or antibiotic feed for our livestock. We believe that happy and healthy stock make for happy and healthy families.\nThe ranch also provides access to the stunning countryside setting of the Smith Rock area. The Anspach family offers memorable ranch adventures such as school field trips\, hunting\, private events\, weddings\, and more.
